From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, demons, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his own means, entering the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the party enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This results in them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.
Viewers can expect learning which players will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
